A surgical technique for the placement of titanium screw-type implants
(Branemark system) in the pterygomaxillary-pyramidal region is presen
ted. The correct direction, location, and length of the implant is dec
ided during surgery. Cylindric osteotomes are used as bone-site former
s, thus minimizing the use of drills in bone preparation. This not onl
y conserves bone, but greatly reduces the potential surgical risks, es
pecially of hemorrhage.
