Jf. Vanstaden et al., IN-LINE PRECONCENTRATION OF PLATINUM WITH AN ALUMINA MICRO-COLUMN IN AN FIA-ICP SYSTEM, South African Journal of Chemistry, 50(3), 1997, pp. 115-122
This investigation was aimed at the preconcentration of trace quantiti
es of platinum with an alumina micro-column incorporated in a flow inj
ection system. An inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrome
ter was used as detector. The, advantages of the in-line preconcentrat
ion system was maximized by optimizing parameters such as the acidity
of the sample, the concentrations of the carrier and eluent streams an
d the flow rates of the individual streams. With this system it was po
ssible to increase the platinum detection limit of the inductively cou
pled plasma atomic emission spectrometer by two orders of magnitude, w
hich corresponded to an enrichment factor of 25.5. Furthermore the pre
cision of the system was better than 5% RSD at the 0.72 mg l(-1)level.
