Various hydroxyflavones have been used for the gravimetric determinati
on(1-3) of niobium(V); among these, quercetin(4) in presence of H2O2 a
nd 3-hydroxy-flavone(5) find use in the spectrophotometric determinati
on of niobium. Accordingly, it has been considered worthwhile to study
the complex formation reactions of niobium with other hydroxyflavones
such as oxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-4H-chromen-4-one, with a vie
w to develop a better extractive spectrophotometric method for trace d
etermination of the element.
