In 1917, the practising veterinarian Felix Train (1876-1930) founded t
he Reichsverband, a provisional association of German practising veter
inarians. The Reichsverband Deutscher Tierarzte, renamed Reichsverband
Praktischer Tierarzte (RPT) in 1920, was the first association of pra
ctising veterinarians in Germany and was founded also by Felix Train i
n 1919. During his 11 years presidency for the RPT, Felix Train succee
ded in uniting the practising veterinarians in a powerful association
and to lead them away from their subaltern position within an at that
time two-class veterinary society. Felix Train's outstanding personali
ty can serve as a positive example for all veterinarians engaging in v
eterinary professional politics.
