A modification of the conventional split-skin graft is presented. This
modification provides a gain in the length of the donor skin up to a
maximum of 1:1.92. The gain in length is achieved in a very short peri
od during an emergency operation. No special instrument is required. T
his technique has been proved to be useful in burn cases having much l
ess donor site than recipient area. Earlier recovery, shortened hospit
al stay, earlier rehabilitation, less scar contracture and less morbid
ity could be achieved with this type of simple modification of a sheet
graft. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd for ISBI.
