A broad definition of community practice has implications for how occu
pational therapy services are defined, delivered and funded. The histo
rical foundations of occupational therapy support an expansion into he
alth promotion and prevention programming that is based in the communi
ty. Moving into these roles opens tip an array of finding possibilitie
s. It may also require developing new partnerships, new skills, and wo
rk under different job titles. This article describes two approaches t
o broadening occupational therapy's role into the community and gives
examples of programs and funding sources for each.
