Mn-x(Cu0.5Fe0.5)(1-x)Cr2S4 has been studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy
and X-ray diffraction. The crystal is found to have a cubic spinel str
ucture, and the lattice constant increases with increasing Mn concentr
ation. The iron ions are in ferric states and occupy the tetrahedral s
ites. When the manganese concentration at the tetrahedral sites increa
ses from 10 to 20%, the magnetic hyperfine field and the Neel temperat
ure are found to decrease by 0.3 and 5%, respectively. As the interato
mic distance increases by 0.2%, the Debye temperature decreases by 7%.
