Abstract
Direct photocyclization of trans-di(alpha-naphthyl)ethylene to dihydro picene with a quantum yield of 0.03 was observed. The kinetics of the photochemical transformations and the effect of the excitation intensi ty on the yield of dihydropicene was studied. A novel adiabatic reacti on pathway for trans-to-cis photoisomerization of di(alpha-naphthyl)et hylene was suggested. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
