Abstract
New optically active bidentate phosphines, (S,S)- and 9-dimethyl-4,5-b is(methylphenylphosphino)xanthenes ((S,S)-1 and (R,R)-1), were prepare d through resolution of the corresponding phosphine oxides using (R, R )-(-)-dibenzoyl-tartaric acid and a preliminary experiment on asymmetr ic synthesis using an allyl substrate proved the utility of the new bi dentate phosphines.
