MULTIFUNCTIONAL INTELLIGENT UPS

This paper introduces the development targets and policies of the inte lligent UPS for the Express5800 server, which has been shipped from Ja nuary 1997. Taking into the consideration that the UPS (Uninterruptibl e Power Supply) is a device as a network computing system, we have new ly developed the intelligent UPS which realizes the multiple UPS confi guration through cascade connection by using the multi-UPS card, and t he multi-shared resources connection and the fault notification from l ower UPSs to upper UPS by using the cluster card. Thus, this intellige nt UPS enables the duplicated configuration, auto-and remote-operation , battery life forecast, etc. This intelligent UPS series has various functions one and half times larger than conventional products while t he sales price remains unchanged. In addition, taking the idea of ''Ti me to Market'' into account, we have been developing five models of th e intelligent UPS series simultaneously for about eight months.
