Growth of Helicobacter pylori is better on solid medium than in liquid
medium. This investigation studied the growth of H. pylori in Brain H
eart Infusion Broth (BHI) with 10% Fetal Calf (FCS) only, 10% FCS + 0.
5 unit/mL Oxyrase(TM) and 0.5 unit/mL Oxyrase(TM incubated microaerobi
cally and aerobically. High populations (ca. 5.5 log CFU/mL) could be
detected in aerobic incubation in broth when Oxyrase(TM) was added. Ho
wever, in BHI media without Oxyrase(TM) after incubation for 24 h aero
bically the numbers of H. pylori decreased from log 7.3 CFU/mL to none
detectable. BHI with 10% FCS and BHI were adequate liquid enrichment
media for the growth of H. pylori under microaerophilic conditions.
