Abstract
We discuss quantum tomography and atom interferometry for the reconstr uction of a quantum state describing the transverse motion of an atomi c beam. Both methods are based on a dispersive interaction between a c lassical electromagnetic field and the atoms. However, the specific te chniques applied to analyze the measured atomic position distributions are fundamentally different for both methods.
