Abstract
Individuals' perceptions of organisational contexts are influenced by factors at both the individual level and the organisational level. The current study examined the influence of pay level and satisfaction wi th administration on pay satisfaction. These influences were examined at the individual level and at the aggregate organisational level. Dif ferent bases for the influence of individual and organisational measur es were proposed, and hierarchical linear models were introduced as an effective method for analysing perceptions at two levels simultaneous ly. Results indicated that differences between individuals and differe nces between organisations in salary level and satisfaction with admin istration contributed to individual levels of satisfaction. Implicatio ns for measurement, theory, and practice in industrial/organisational psychology are discussed.
