A method for the detection of genetically modified insect-resistant ma
ize expressing a synthetic gene encoding a truncated version of the Cr
yIA(b) protein derived from Bacillus thuringiensis is described. The p
rocedure includes: (I) extraction of genomic DNA, (2) amplification of
the inserted synthetic gene bq means of the polymerase chain reaction
(PCR) method, and (3) characterization and confirmation of the PCR pr
oduct by Southern hybridization with a digoxigenin-labelled oligo-nucl
eotide probe and DNA sequencing.
