Abstract
The behaviour of nonlinear waves propagating in materials exhibiting m ixed nonlinearity is examined. The effects of geometric spreading, dif fraction and caustic formation are considered and model nonlinear evol ution equations are derived. Appropriate shock conditions are construc ted.
