A method that was proposed for the identification of the parameters of
the CMH model assumed that the Preisach function was the product of a
Gaussian function of the interaction field and a Gaussian function of
the critical field. While the latter function is an approximation tha
t is good only for materials whose coercivity is large compared to the
standard deviation of critical fields, the former function is applica
ble to a wide range of magnetic materials. This paper discusses the th
eory of the interaction field and measurements of it using an anhyster
etic magnetizing process. It is shown that the moving model corrects t
he apparent deviation from Gaussian behavior. (C) 1997 American Instit
