Abstract
Layers of magnetite structure were observed in deposing iron oxide on Pd by LEED measurements. We consider the magnetic structure of these l ayers. It is investigated whether spin-polarized and angle-resolved ph otoelectron diffraction can be used to distinguish between the Zuo and the Mizoguchi model, respectively. In the two models we have a differ ent distribution of the Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions. This difference is incorpo rated into the calculation by spin-dependent scattering phase shifts. The results of the calculation show that there is a cancellation of th e magnetic scattering in the Mizoguchi structure whereas there remains a contribution in the Zuo model. Thus, we conclude that these structu res should be distinguishable by spin-polarized angle-resolved photoel ectron diffraction.
