CONGENITAL CONSTRICTION BAND OF THE TRUNK

Constriction band of the trunk is a rare congenital malformation. A 5- year-old girl with a congenital circumferential constriction band arou nd the waist is described. Six other cases of congenital constriction band of the trunk are reviewed. Like constriction band of the limbs, t his malformation is probably related to the amniotic band syndrome. Su rgical correction should be considered carefully because natural evolu tion is usually benign and the postoperative esthetic benefit may be q uestionable. There is no evidence of any risk of familial recurrence.
