Abstract
An attempt to improve the shape memory characteristics by precipitatio n-hardening was made for non-equiatomic Ti-Pd-Ni high temperature shap e memory alloys (Ti:(Ni, Pd) not equal 50:50) by differential scanning calorimetry, high temperature tensile tests and transmission electron microscopy. It was found that homogeneously distributed fine precipit ates can be produced by ageing treatment at the proper temperature of 773 K for Ti50.6Pd30Ni19.4 alloys, These precipitates increase the cri tical stress for slip and improve the shape memory characteristics sub stantially at high temperatures.
