Surgical treatment of the children of Jehovah's Witnesses is a challen
ging problem both ethically and technically. The authors recently oper
ated on such a child who had bilateral Wilms' tumors. Techniques used
to minimize blood loss included erythropoietin, hemodilution, and the
argon beam coagulator. A full understanding of the religious, legal, a
nd ethical issues is essential when treating the children of Jehovah's
Witnesses. Copyright (C) 1997 by W.B. Saunders Company.
