This article examines eight cases of justification of Advanced Manufac
turing Technology as additional evidence to explain how strategic myop
ia understates the benefits that might be obtained from new technology
. It also presents a method of evaluating investments in Advanced Manu
facturing Technology relative to external key competitive factors. The
suggested method starts with identifying market forces, key competiti
ve factors, competitive and opportunity gap, and then measures its ben
efits through its contribution to the closing of competitive and oppor
tunity gap.
