Abstract
It is shown that speech signals can have attractors with fractal dimen sion. A method for estimating this dimension is given. The existence o f this attractor suggests that statistical models for speech may be in appropriate. Moreover, the dimension of this attractor is a lower boun d on the order of a linear prediction model. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.
