ORGANIZING FOR AN INITIAL IMPLEMENTATION OF S88

Three steps to a better implementation of the new Batch Control Standa rd S88. The authors present an outline for implementing S88 based on t heir experience re-engineering a batch-intensive silicone manufacturin g facility. The three outlined steps include: Laying an educational, o rganizational and technical foundation (Section 2); creating and docum enting the plan (Section 3); and learning from implementation (Section 4). Section 2 focuses on project scope and business drivers, establis hing a philosophy of automation, the use of standards, and creation of a skill-based organization.
