Abstract
Factors affecting adventitious root formation were studied in explants of juvenile and adult Quercus robur 'Fastigiaia'. Rooting occurred on ly in explants taken from succulent and young shoots. Long time subcul turing of adult shoots (4 yrs) did not change the rooting behaviour. C ontinuous darkness was essential for rooting. Root formation occurred only when sugar, auxin and macrosalts were present in the medium. Unde r a special set of conditions, rooting can easily be induced in leaf a nd stem explants originating from a 30-yr-old adult oak tree. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
