Abstract
Colombeau's theory of generalized functions is used to calculate the c ontributions, at the rotation axis, to the distributional curvature fo r a time-dependent radiating cosmic string, and hence the mass per uni t length of the string source. This mass per unit length is compared w ith the mass at null infinity, giving evidence for a global energy con servation law.
