V. Hartmann et R. Cressely, SIMPLE SALTS EFFECTS ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SHEAR THICKENING EXHIBITED BY AN AQUEOUS MICELLAR SOLUTION OF CTAB NASA1/, Europhysics letters, 40(6), 1997, pp. 691-696
In this experimental work we investigate the effect of the addition of
simple salts such as NaNO3, NaBr, NaCl, NaF on the rheological behavi
our of an aqueous micellar solution of CTAB 0.1 M with NaSal at the co
ncentration of 0.019 M. Experimental results indicate that the rheolog
ical characteristics of the solution CTAB/NaSal exhibiting shear thick
ening (critical shear rate corresponding to the occurrence of the shea
r-induced structure, amplitude of the phenomenon, slope corresponding
to the shear thinning evolution following the maximum viscosity) are p
rogressively, but differently affected by the addition of the inorgani
c salts. The effect of only a simple screening of electrostatic intera
ctions is shown by the addition of small amounts of NaF.
