We discuss the expansion of a quark-antiquark plasma in the framework
of an n-body transport theory. We observe that small initial fluctuati
ons increase during the expansion. The final state consists of droplet
s of plasma and partons which have gained their asymptotic mass. The e
xact configuration is determined by fluctuations. This finding questio
ns whether mean-field approaches or hydrodynamics can provide the prop
er framework to study the expansion of a quark-gluon plasma.
