Ba. Wilson et al., DIFFUSIVE CRACK-HEALING BEHAVIOR IN POLYCRYSTALLINE ALUMINA - A COMPARISON BETWEEN MICROWAVE ANNEALING AND CONVENTIONAL ANNEALING, Materials research bulletin, 32(12), 1997, pp. 1607-1616
Crack-healing experiments via both conventional heating and microwave
heating were performed on Vickers-indented specimens of polycrystallin
e alumina (Coors ADS-995). For the entire temperature range included i
n this experiment (1510-1742 K), the crack-healing rate was enhanced f
or microwave heating compared to conventional heating. The microwave c
rack-healing data were described well by a diffusive mass transport mo
del given by Stevens and Dutton. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
