The Raman spectrum of cyanogen (C2N2)-C-12-N-14 has been investigated
at nearly Doppler resolution by means of the Stimulated Raman techniqu
e. The regions around the Q branches of the nu(1) (2330 cm(-1)) and nu
(2) (845 cm(-1)) vibrations have been recorded. Besides the fundamenta
ls, hot bands arising from upsilon(5) = 1, upsilon(5) = 2, and upsilon
(4) = 1 have been observed. The spectra have been analyzed, and rotati
onal constants for the excited states have been obtained. Computer sim
ulations of the Raman contours have been carried out as a test of the
assignments. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
