A method was proposed for concentration and determination of low-molec
ular-weight hydrocarbon impurities in hydrocarbon gases using an adsor
ption open tubular column. It was shown that the relative peak heights
of impurities depend linearly on their concentration in the test mixt
ure, and that the chromatographic efficiency increases somewhat with a
n increase in the sample volume. When the frontal-elution concentratio
n technique was applied to heavier impurities, (using the determinatio
n of hydrocarbon impurities in helium as an example) stepwise chromato
graphy of impurities was accomplished.
