The reaction of indamine formation by the oxidative condensation of N,
N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine with aniline is used as the basis for the
test determination of aniline in solutions. The reaction is studied d
epending on the nature and the concentration of the oxidant, the acidi
ty of solution, and the concentration of the reagent. The retention of
N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine and the reaction product N,N-diethyl-p
-phenyleneindamine on reversed-phase silica gel, silica gel (Silica ge
l F), and silica gel-based ion exchangers (SO3H silica gel and TA sili
ca gel) is studied. Indicator tubes are proposed for the determination
of 0.002-2.5 mg/L (0.2-25 of MPC) of aniline in solutions. The accura
cy and precision of aniline determination with the use of indicator tu
bes are comparable with the corresponding characteristics of solid-pha
se spectrophotometry procedures.
