Tv. Bagaeva, THE ABILITY OF SULFATE-REDUCING BACTERIA OF VARIOUS TAXONOMIC GROUPS TO SYNTHESIZE EXTRACELLULAR HYDROCARBONS, Microbiology, 66(6), 1997, pp. 666-668
Sulfate-reducing bacteria of various taxonomic groups were found to sy
nthesize extracellular hydrocarbons during growth on lactate in an atm
osphere of H-2 + CO2. The most active producers of hydrocarbons were s
ulfate-reducing bacteria bringing about incomplete oxidation of lactat
e. Hydrocarbons produced were normal or isomeric alkanes with a chain
length from C-11 to C-24.
