Abstract
Alkyl isocyanides undergo a complex reaction with 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluo ropentane-2,4-dione to afford s(trifluoromethyl)-5-hydroxy-1-H-pyrrol- 2(5H)-ones (3) in fairly high yields. The products were characterized by H-1,C-13 and F-19 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, ma ss spectrometry and elemental analysis. The structure of compound 3b ( cyclohexyl) was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis. (C) 1997 E lsevier Science S.A.
