N. Moszner et al., MONOMERS FOR ADHESIVE POLYMERS 1 - SYNTHESIS AND RADICAL POLYMERIZATION OF BICYCLIC MONOMERS, Polymer bulletin, 39(6), 1997, pp. 669-676
Bicyclic functionalized methacrylates were synthesized by a Diels-Alde
r reaction of furfuryl methacrylate with maleic anhydride and subseque
nt conversion to the corresponding monomers containing carboxylic grou
ps. The structure of the bicyclic functionalized methacrylates was con
firmed by elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopy. T
he radical photopolymerization of bicyclic monomethacrylates in dimeth
ylformamide with 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) resulted in solubl
e polymers while a bicyclic dimethacrylate resulted in a crosslinked p
olymer.
