The cationic cluster complex [Ru-3(mu(3)-ampy)(CO)(10)][BF4] (1) (Hamp
y = 2-amino-6-methylpyridine) reacts with hydrogen at room temperature
undergoing an oxidative substitution of CO to give the cationic dihyd
rido derivative [Ru-3(mu-H)(2)(mu(3)-ampy)(CO)(9)][BF4]. However, unde
r similar conditions, the reactions of compound 1 with triethylsilane
and triphenylstannane lead to mixtures of [Ru-3(mu-H)(mu(3)-ampy)(CO)(
9)] with the corresponding [R3E][BF4] salts (R3E=Et3Si, Ph3Sn). (C) 19
