The current usage of P/M superalloys is compared with the 1995 forecas
t. Recent developments are evaluated including advances in spray-formi
ng, sub-solidus HIPing, alloy development, work on the high speed civi
l transport (HSCT), and probabilistic fracture mechanics. Replacement
of ingot metallurgy 706 by a P/M version in land based gas turbines is
also assessed. The future use and growth of the P/M superalloy market
is still largely in aircraft gas turbines and heavily dependent on th
e increased production of the Boeing 777.
