Studies that have been performed by MALDI mass spectrometry in the fie
ld of non-enzymatic protein glyco-oxidation are briefly reviewed. The
results obtained by in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate the p
ower of this technique, which is able to give information on the numbe
r of sugar molecules condensed on specific proteins and, consequently,
represents a new and specific diagnostic tool in diabetes control. (C
