Abstract
The nonlinear dynamics of polarization modulation instability in the s trong conversion regime is investigated both theoretically and experim entally. We observe oscillations in the polarization modulation instab ility sidebands' power as a function of input-pump power. These oscill ations correspond to the changing direction of the flow of energy betw een the sidebands and the Dump. With the inclusion of Raman gain betwe en the three waves, good agreement is found between theory and experim ent. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(97)00212-9].
