G. Akyar et al., ABSCESS FORMATION DUE TO DROPPED GALLSTONE AFTER LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY, European journal of radiology, 25(3), 1997, pp. 242-245
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a popular treatment modality of sympto
matic gallstones with decreased major complications and shortened hosp
ital stay. Complications following laparoscopic cholecystectomy, most
of them involving strictures of biliary tract have been well described
in recent reports. However, there are only a few reported cases about
dropped gallstones after the procedure, all of which were opaque and
easily demonstrated with multiple imaging modalities. An unusual compl
ication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy; abscess formation due to a dr
opped non-opaque gallstone is described in which diagnosis was suggest
ed with the combination of ultrasound and computed tomography findings
and confirmed by surgery. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.
