Abstract
The activity of mammalian topoisomerase I is inhibited by acidic phosp holipids. We investigated the effect of psychotropic drugs and local a nesthetics on cardiolipin-inhibited calf thymus DNA topoisomerase I ac tivity, Chlorpromazine, promethazine, and imipramine, which interact w ith phospholipids, suppressed the inhibitory effect of cardiolipin, Th e present results suggest that relaxation of DNA supercoiling is invol ved in the cytotoxic action of these drugs.
