M. Yokogawa et al., STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS CBN COOLING-AIR GRINDING TECHNOLOGY, International journal of the Japan Society for Precision Engineering, 31(3), 1997, pp. 187-192
The conventional grinding method uses fluid that contains chlorine, su
lfur and phosphorus which aggravates the working environment and incre
ases costs for fluid replacement and disposal. We developed the coolin
g-air CBN grinding system, which performs grinding by supplying coolin
g air to the grinding point with a solid-lubricant-impregnated CBN whe
el or a CBN wheel supplied with an extremely small amount of superfine
vegetable oil. This method provides better grinding performance compa
red with grinding under fluid. The compressive residual stress of work
pieces ground using our method are higher and deeper compared with CBN
grinding under fluid, and the material strength of workpieces is high
er even under high-efficiency grinding.
