Abstract
Commodification of low-cost diagnostic technologies (LCDTs) carries th e risk of an unintended and potentially worrisome shift in how we conc eive of health assessment. Optimizing practice requires a balanced und erstanding of both the beneficial and harmful impact of the use of LCD Ts and the development of system incentives for appropriate use.
