M. Eiselt et al., POLARIZATION-INSENSITIVE FREQUENCY-CONVERTER WITH THE CAPABILITY OF CHIRP REMOVAL, IEEE photonics technology letters, 10(1), 1998, pp. 63-65
We report on a new type of polarization insensitive frequency conversi
on technique using four-wave mixing (FWM) in a semiconductor optical a
mplifier (SOA), In this technique the input signal is spectrally dupli
cated by a Mach-Zehnder type phase modulator, Then, the resulting two
waves generate the frequency converted output signal by FWM with use o
f an additional pump wave, The converted output wavelength is independ
ent of the wavelength of the input signal, In addition to the frequenc
y conversion, the chirp of the input signal is removed by the FWM proc
ess, bit-error-rate (BER)-measurements after transmission of the conve
rted signal over standard communication fiber are reported.
