Abstract
In this paper the free-energy coupling of ion transfer (and electron t ransfer) from a qualitative point of view is studied. The main role of the hydrophilicity-hidrophobicity balance of the transferable ion is emphasized. The equilibrium distribution of an ionic redox couple in a two-phase system can be controlled by using appropriate common counte rions, or indifferent electrolytes. The ''mixed potential'' behaviour of the electrical tension of an ITIES with at least two transferable i ons is considered.
