Abstract
Systematic measurements of the radon concentration and of the gamma ra y activity have been made in Hall B of the Gran Sasso Underground Labo ratory. The radon level was reduced from about 150 Bq m(-3) to 20 Bq m (-3) and is now essentially stable at this level. The natural gamma ra y background in Hall B is about 9 nSv h(-1), about a factor of nine sm aller than the average value of the external gamma dose rate in the Gr an Sasso area. The experimental equipment in Hall B was checked for po ssible contaminations.
