Abstract
In carrying out the sign test, the order in which the subject receives the treatments may be important. We examine Gart's test and show it i s equivalent to a score test under a product binomial model. If equal numbers of subjects receive each treatment order, then we suggest our form of Gart's test rather than the sign test should be used routinely .
