Experience has shown that RTC systems are vulnerable to failures in th
e on-line monitoring system. It is therefore crucial to have a small a
nd well functioning monitoring system than a larger monitoring system
with many failures. This paper describes the results of a project with
the aim of investigating the on-line monitoring system 4 years after
put into operation. The outcome was a cut down in the number of on-lin
e level transmitters and an automatic routine for detecting failures i
n the level transmitters. The routine has been programmed into the SCA
DA system and checks for 15 commonly occuring errors. Furthermore, an
automatically generated report prints out statistics for larger rain e
vents. (C) 1997 IAWQ. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
