J. Baars, THE REINTERPRETATION OF FINITUDE - AN INTRODUCTION TO 3 ARTICLES ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF AGING, Journal of aging studies, 11(4), 1997, pp. 259-261
Whereas the expected problems of population aging are discussed extens
ively in the mass media, with a strong emphasis on the costs of pensio
ns and care in the future, philosophy has remained virtually silent ab
out the many aspects of aging and gerontology relevant to the discipli
ne. However, aging is not a new topic in philosophy; it only has to be
reintroduced. Although the three authors offer different perspectives
on aging, there is a common effort to reinterpret the fundamental exp
erience of finitude in the light of aging.
