From the root bark of Dictamnus dasycarpus (Rutaceae), four limonoid d
erivatives, two furoquinoline alkaloids, five limonoids, two sesquiter
penes and three steroids were isolated and their structures elucidated
on the basis of various spectroscopic methods. Among the identified c
ompounds, one was determined to be a new natural product, 6 beta-hydro
xyfraxinellone, while six compounds were found to be active against th
e plant pathogenic fungus Cladosporium cucumerinum. The relationship b
etween the structures of limonoid derivatives and their inhibitory act
ivity against fungal growth was investigated. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scienc
