S. Nagaki et al., RELATION BETWEEN DAMAGE DUE TO CIRCULAR HOLES AND LOCAL DEFORMATION OF PERFORATED SHEETS, International journal of mechanical sciences, 40(2-3), 1998, pp. 215-226
In the present paper, we propose a new method using the voronoi tessel
lation and the stereology to evaluate the local damage state due to vo
ids during ductile fracture process. The damage tensor component is ca
lculated based on a representative unit cell obtained from distributio
n function of line segments of voronoi polygons. Perforated sheets wer
e set up as the plane models of damaged materials and were examined un
der the condition of uniaxial tension, where the deformation of circul
ar holes is measured. The experimental results show that the distribut
ion of damage tensor components obtained here corresponds well to the
fracture pattern of model specimens. It is also shown that the local p
lastic deformation, i.e. the deformation of each hole is closely relat
ed to the damage tensor. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
